How do I get around when I am there?

This is difficult as I live about 5km from Gisborne city and there is no public transport. I will be suggesting that the apprentice group hires a car for the period or part of.

 

Is there an opportunity to see where the film ‘The Whale Rider ‘ was filmed?

Yes we spend the first afternoon of the 6 week apprenticeship with a Women’s Welcome at the Marae (Meeting House) at Whangara. The actual whale stranding written about in Witi Ihimaera’s book is directly in front of ‘Viriditas’.

 

Is there any ‘time out’ during the intensives?

Not for the three week intensive but there will be a long weekend at the end of the third week of the 6 week intensive.

 

Do we get to learn about the medicinal uses of plants native to New Zealand?

Yes there is a weekend on ‘Rongoa Maori’ (Traditional Maori Medicine) in the 6 week intensive and native plants and their medicine will be included in the 3 week intensive.
